Bekina was founded in 1962 by brothers Denis and Donaat Vanderbeke in the village of Kluisbergen in the Flemish Ardennes area of Belgium, and to this day is still owned and managed by the Vanderbeke family.

The company began by producing handmade rubber wellingtons before installing its first presses for moulded boots in 1968. This evolved in 1992 to the production of Polyurethene Wellingtons.

Progress has been made every year since, to the point where the company today has capacity for 500,000 pairs annually from its state of the art factory, is a ISO9002 company, exports to over 48 countries and is considered a world leader in the production of high quality polyurethane wellingtons.
